My Story
Written by Innes Lauren Heywood.
Life was unique and a little nonsensical at times. For much of my childhood I was dressed in a swimsuit and not much else. With hoteliers for parents, I was left to roam freely; the smells of Tuberose and the sea still take me back to my three-year-old self at my home at Amankila, on Bali.
‘Innes’ means ‘island dweller’; innately I am still this girl today.
But this freedom could be a prison in itself, leaving me feeling connected to everything and absolutely nothing at the same time, and finding it hard to find my own flow and sense of place.
There were moves to more pragmatic life in America, Singapore and Sydney; but amid their frantic and frenetic pace, my heart was always searching for that slow and timeless island pace. I couldn’t keep up, nor did I want to.
So I did what I knew how to do, and kept moving, always searching for that sense of ‘home’.
Innes Lauren was born from the realization of the importance of slow living. Home to me is long, slow days in swimwear.
Drawn from the minimalist essence of my home, Amankila, the clean lines, elegant shapes and soft neutral tones are the memory heritage that I bring to my designs.
The designs are uncomplicated, they invite the wearer to slow down, be still and exude confidence - to unapologetically be.
It is my ambition that Innes Lauren pieces become a core part of your wardrobe, worn effortlessly—to be the easiest choice you make in your day.
